2020-21 Premier League: Week Five – Leeds United vs Wolves

Leeds United welcome Wolves to Elland Road in a tasty Monday Night Football clash as both teams look to bolster their top seven hopes.

Victory will send Leeds third whilst Wolves will leapfrog their Yorkshire hosts and climb up to sixth with a win.

Liam Cooper is a doubt for Leeds after withdrawing from international duty for Scotland with a muscle injury, whilst Pablo Hernandez (groin) and Kiko Casilla (ankle) are looking to start after making full recoveries.

Jack Harrison is available after missing out on the last matchday squad due to being ineligible to face Manchester City due to the terms of his loan deal.

Diego Llorente (muscle) joins Adam Forshaw (hip) and Gaetano Berardi (knee) on sidelines indefinitely.

Wolves could welcome Fernando Marcal back from a calf injury but Jonny remains absent with a knee injury.

Stat Attack

  • Leeds have lost each of their last three league meetings against Wolves (L3).
  • Wolves are unbeaten in four of their last six trips to Elland Road (W4, L2), keeping clean sheets in three of their four wins in that time.
  • Only one red card has been dished out in two previous Premier League meetings between these teams, with Leeds’ Dominic Matteo sent off in their first clash at Molineux in 2003-04 season.
  • Leeds’ Illan Meslier had produced a league-high 33 throw outs in four appearances entering this round of Premier League fixtures.
  • No Wolves player has won more aerial battles in opening four league games than Willy Boly’s 19 victorious aerial battles in four appearances.

This game has the hallmarks of a good match because Leeds have come up punching above their expected weights in the very same manner that Wolves did in the 2018-19 season, which makes this clash that more edgy between two quality teams.

Leeds in particular showed great courage in their last outing to come from behind to claim a point against Manchester City with a high press attacking performance, which might not be enough here against a Wolves team who are also good in the pressing aspect.

Wolves however do seem to lack confidence in the final third at minute because they really should of battered Fulham in their last match, although this is a good test of where they still need to improve if are to match their performances of last season.

Either way, we should expect goals which seem to have become the norm for majority of teams at minute but given Wolves’ issues in front of goal, I am going for a home win.

Prediction: Leeds United 2-1 Wolves

Result: Leeds United 0-1 Wolves
