Wales look to move closer towards securing promotion from UEFA Nations League B as they visit Bulgaria at Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia.
Victory for Bulgaria would lift them out of the relegation spot if Republic of Ireland lose to Finland, whilst Wales just need to match or better Finland’s result to remain top of League B4 heading into November’s final two rounds.
Georgi Dermendzhiev could ring the changes in his Bulgaria squad after suffering back-to-back defeats.
Wales will be without David Brooks after the Bournemouth midfielder suffered an unspecified injury in training, with Brooks returning to the Cherries for treatment.
Cardiff’s Kieffer Moore and Bristol City’s Joe Morrell are both suspended and have consequently been released from the squad to return to their clubs, whilst Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey is too absent as he suffered an injury following Sunday’s draw against Republic of Ireland.
Chris Mepham is a doubt as he struggles with a knee injury but has travelled to Bulgaria.
- Bulgaria have won just one of their last five meetings against Wales in all competitions (W1, D1, L3).
- Wales have never drawn an away trip to Bulgaria (W2, L2), winning their last two trips by 1-0 results.
- Wales have kept three clean sheets in their three Nations League matches in League B4.
Bulgaria have reason to worry coming into this match because not only their recent record against Wales is poor but they need to tighten up defensively after two individual sloppy mistakes saw them lose in Finland on Sunday when could of possibly scraped a point from that match.
Wales meanwhile should be looking to show more of the attacking quality which was on show against England on Thursday yet seemed to be missing in Dublin on Sunday against Ireland, although their defensive display was much improved in the latter to claim a point in a goalless draw.
I am therefore hoping that we will see an entertaining match because if Bulgaria can tighten up and Wales come out with attacking intent, anything could happen but Wales do possess superior attacking threat and if they can find their clinical edge then this should be an away win.
Prediction: Bulgaria 0-1 Wales
Result: Bulgaria 0-1 Wales
