Rangers face a difficult Third Qualifying Round trip to Willem II at the Koning Willem II Stadion in this straight knockout tie with a spot in the Europa League play-offs at stake.
Having gone unbeaten in 18 of their last 19 Europa League Qualifying matches, Rangers will be looking to avoid a cupset as they take on an Willem II team, who comfortably defeated Progres Niederkorn in the last round to reach this stage.
Freek Heerkens is ruled out for Willem II with a groin injury.
Leeroy Owusu (hamstring), Otschi Wriedt (foot), Elton Kabangu and Rick Zuijderwijk (both unspecified) are also ruled out of this match.
Rangers could be without Kemar Roofe after the ex Leeds striker suffered a calf injury in last Thursday’s victory over Lincoln Red Imps.
Leon Balogun (thigh), Joe Aribo (ankle), Brandon Barker (hamstring) and Ryan Jack (calf) are all ruled out once again for Steven Gerrard’s Gers.
- This is the first-ever Europa League meeting between Willem II and Rangers.
- Willem II’s Vangelis Pavlidis has scored three goals in his last two matches for the Dutch club across all competitions.
- Rangers have lost just one of their last 19 Europa League Qualifying matches (W12, D6, L1).
Rangers have enjoyed a strong unbeaten Qualifying run across their last two European campaigns but Willems II will be tough opposition given that both teams had produced 5-0 wins in the last round, which suggests that we could be in store for a competitive fixture.
Rangers however are much sharper in terms of match fitness which will benefit them against Willem II who have only played three games so far this season and if this goes to extra time, their freshness could swing the result in their favour if can take full advantage.
I however am going for a Rangers win because they seem to be on a roll this season and I just don’t see that ending here.
Prediction: Willem II 0-2 Rangers
Result: Willem II 0-4 Rangers
