Scotland look to go top of UEFA Nations League B2 as they visit Czech Republic at Andruv Stadion, Olomouc after this game was almost called off due to Coronavirus concerns within Czech Republic’s squad.
Czech Republic currently sit top of this group after defeating Slovakia 3-1 on Friday whilst Scotland drew 1-1 with Israel but the Tartan Army can move top of the group with victory here if Israel don’t better their result.
Czech Republic have named an entirely new squad for this fixture due to Coronavirus concerns within the original squad after Tomas Soucek and Patrik Schick were the only two players asked to self-isolate after positive tests.
The new squad only includes two previously capped players in Roman Hubnik and Stanislav Tecl, who have amassed a combined 34 caps between them, with everyone else competing for their first international caps.
Scotland have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad available for selection.
- Czech Republic are unbeaten in five of seven previous meetings against Scotland in all competitions (W4, D1, L2).
- Scotland have never drawn any of four previous trips to Czech Republic (W1, L3), despite scoring in three of those four visits.
- Scotland have kept just one clean sheet in their last five away matches in all competitions, which came against San Marino last March in Euro 2020 Qualifying.
Scotland did a great job against Israel with a defensive back three in terms of tightening up as a unit when not in possession whilst maintaining a high energy tempo, which almost got them the win if it wasn’t a late moment of Israeli magic but they will have to improve going forward if want to build momentum ahead of a packed October international window.
Czech Republic meanwhile will be an interesting watch with an entirely new squad in place just for this match but Scotland will need to show them respect because they cannot afford to come into this match expecting to comfortably beat an inexperienced team, otherwise it could well be a humiliating loss for the Tartan Army.
I therefore do expect to see a good game but if Scotland can turn up and deliver a clinical display whilst showing respect for this unpredictable Czech team, I think that they can come away with a routine win.
Prediction: Czech Republic 0-2 Scotland
Result: Czech Republic 1-2 Scotland
