2019-20 UEFA Europa League: Round of 32 First Leg – Celtic vs Copenhagen

Celtic welcome Copenhagen to Celtic Park in the second leg of their Round of 32 tie, as both teams look to progress into the Last 16.

Currently locked at 1-1 after the first leg, Celtic know that only a win or goalless draw would be enough to see them advance, otherwise extra time and penalties could be needed if not the away goal rule.

Scott Brown and James Forrest are available for Celtic after missing Sunday’s win over Kilmarnock with knocks.

Olivier Ntcham (calf), Ryan Christie (suspension),  Hatem Abel Elhamed (groin) and Mikey Johnston (knee) are ruled out of this match.

Copenhagen have no fresh injury concerns as Viktor Fischer, Jonas Wind, Robert Mudrazija and Nicolai Boilesen remain ruled out for the Danish team.

Stat Attack

  • Celtic are unbeaten int wo of three previous meetings against Copenhagen (W1, D1, L1).
  • Copenhagen have lost their only previous trip to Celtic Park, losing 1-0 in September 2006 in the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
  • Celtic have kept just two clean sheets in nine Europa League games this season, of which both came in 2-0 home wins over AIK and CFR Cluj.

Prediction

Celtic were solid on Sunday at home to Kilmarnock once they hit their stride, despite going a goal down early on, but they will need to raise their game here because Copenhagen won’t cave in like the Killies did.

I therefore am expecting a good attacking game between two solid teams but Copenhagen know how to dig in away from home and make life difficult for the opposition.

Celtic however should pull through this if the fans get behind the team and have scored twice in each of their four home Europa games this season, which is a confidence boost.

Prediction: Celtic 2-1 Copenhagen

Result: Celtic 1-3 Copenhagen (Copenhagen win 4-2 on aggregate)
