2019-20 Premier League: Week 27 – Chelsea vs Tottenham

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea welcome Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur in a mouth-watering London derby, as the race for the top four intensifies.

Chelsea will move four points clear of Spurs with victory whilst Tottenham can leapfrog their cross-London rivals if they take the win.

Tammy Abraham is a doubt for Chelsea after missing Monday’s defeat to Manchester United with an on-going foot injury.

Andreas Christiansen is a doubt with a facial injury but Christian Pulisic (groin) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (fitness) are expected to return within the next fortnight.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (hamstring), N’Golo Kante (adductor) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) are ruled out.

Tottenham have no fresh injury concerns as Juan Foyth (groin), Son Heung-min (arm), Moussa Sissoko (knee) and Harry Kane (hamstring) remain out.

Form

Chelsea enter this match without a win in their last four league games (D2, L2), conceding twice in their last three outings of which two came at home.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last four coming into this game (W3, D1), yet are winless in three of their last four away trips (W1, D2, L1).

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea have won three of their last five league meetings against Tottenham (W3, L2), including their last two clashes by 2-0 results.
  • Tottenham have won one of their last 27 league trips to Stamford Bridge (W1, D9, L17).
  • There has been 210 yellow cards dished out in this league fixture with Tottenham collecting 111 yellows to Chelsea’s 99.
  • Both teams have scored two penalties in this league fixture although Chelsea missed one of their three spot kicks whereas Spurs has scored both of their penalties.
  • All six of Jorginho’s Premier League goals have come from the Italian’s right foot.

Prediction

If Chelsea can continue their intensity from their performance against Man Utd but tighten up at the back and avoid getting on wrong side of VAR, they surely will have to fancy their chances against Tottenham who has a hoodoo at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs however have shown plenty of attacking intent themselves in their past three games but have no proper strikers available bar Troy Parrot, which is going to be a concern against a team of Chelsea’s quality.

I however can see both teams cancelling each other out because Chelsea aren’t in fine form and Tottenham don’t have the firepower up front but should be capable of getting at least one goal here.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
