Renault Announce Junior Academy Lineup for 2020

Renault have announced their junior driver lineup for the upcoming season as four drivers including Guanyu Zhou are retained, as two new arrivals join Renault Sport Academy.

Zhou will remain in Formula Two with Virtuosi Racing where he will partner Ferrari youngster Callum Ilott, having finished as the highest placed rookie in 2019 with five third-placed finishes.

Christian Lundgaard will step up from Formula Three into F2 as he remains with ART GP, partnering Marcus Armstrong who like Ilott is part of Ferrari’s Academy.

Lundgaard’s teammate from last season in F3, Max Fewtrell also stays with the Enstone based team, as he continues in F3 for another season but switches from ART GP to Hitech.

Brazil’s Caio Collet is the last of four drivers to have been retained, continuing in Formula Renault Eurocup with R-ace GP in which he finished fifth in the championship last season.

Piastri and Hadrien

The quadret will be joined by two new junior drivers in Oscar Piastri and Hadrien David on the programme (pictured above).

Piastri joins as the reigning Formula Renault Eurocup champion and will race for Prema in F3 this season.

Hadrien joins by virtue of winning last season’s French F4 title and will link up with MP Motorsport in this season’s Formula Renault Eurocup.

Each driver will be working to a personalised training and development programme, whilst assisting the main F1 team with simulator sessions at their headquarters at Enstone.

Speaking of the Academy lineup, Renault Sport Academy Director, Mia Sharizman said; “This year’s lineup is the strongest we’ve had in the last four years of the Renault Sport Academy. We’ve struck a balance between experienced and rookie drivers and we believe we can compete for titles across all junior championships in which we’ve entered our members.”

As part of the Academy shakeup, Renault have released Victor Martins and Ye Yifei as well as ending their affiliation with Leornardo Lorandi, who endured a dissapointing Eurocup campaign last season with a 13th placed championship finish.
