2019-20 Premier League: Week 24 – Leicester vs West Ham

Leicester City welcome West Ham United to the King Power Stadium as both teams face tough scraps at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

A win for Leicester will see them stay third but move back to within three points of Manchester City, whilst West Ham can climb to 15th with victory.

Wilfred Ndidi is in contention to return for Leicester from a knee injury which kept him out of Sunday’s loss at Burnley.

Matty James (fitness) and Daniel Amartey (ankle) remain ruled out for the foreseeable future.

West Ham could welcome Michail Antonio back from a hamstring injury which had sidelined him in the last couple of weeks.

Lukasz Fabianski (hip), Ryan Fredericks (hamstring), Felipe Anderson (ribs), Andriy Yarmolenko (thigh) and Jack Wilshire (groin) all remain sidelined for this match.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester have lost just one of their last five Premier League (PL) meetings with West Ham (W1, D3, L1).
  • Both teams have scored in five of their last six meetings, with the only exception coming when West Ham won 2-0 here in May 2018.
  • Just one of Leicester’s last five goals against the Hammers came in the first-half, courtesy of Kelechi Iheanacho in last month’s clash at the London Stadium.
  • There have been seven red cards dished out in 25 previous PL meetings between these teams, with Leicester picking up four sending offs to West Ham’s three.
  • Out of West Ham’s last four goals at the King Power Stadium, just one came from a striker – Andy Carroll in a 2-2 draw in April 2016.

Prediction

Leicester seem to have lost their edge with two consecutive defeats despite scoring first, which is very worrying ahead of this game against West Ham who like to dig deep like they did on Saturday against Everton.

I therefore can see a scrappy game here between two different teams with a draw looking a good bet, but Ben Chilwell could be troublesome up the left with his fresh pace after being rested on Sunday.

Leicester also need this more to arrest any possible slide for mentality sake ahead of a tough FA Cup trip to Brentford on Saturday, so I am going for an edgy home win here.

Prediction: Leicester City 2-1 West Ham United

Result: Leicester City 4-1 West Ham United
