2019-20 Premier League: Week 23 – West Ham vs Everton

West Ham United look to hit back from a disappointing loss at Sheffield United last weekend, as they welcome Everton to the London Stadium.

West Ham could climb to 14th with a win whilst Everton will move into the top ten with victory and an Arsenal loss elsewhere.

Felipe Anderson and Arthur Masuaku are doubts for West Ham due to respective rib and knee injuries.

Michail Antonio is also doubtful as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Andriy Yarmolenko (thigh) and Lukasz Fabianski (hip) are both ruled out but could return next weekend, whilst Ryan Fredericks (hamstring) and Jack Wilshire (groin) won’t return until after the Hammers’ winter break next month.

Everton could welcome Alex Iwobi back from a hamstring injury which sidelined the Nigerian international for the last month.

Yerry Mina however is doubtful after suffering a knock which has prevented him from training all week.

Jean-Phillipe Gbamin (tendon) is unlikely to be ready to return this weekend, whilst Andre Gomes (ankle) remains ruled out.

Form

West Ham have taken just two wins in their last five across all competitions (W2, L3), but have scored in nine of their ten home games so far this season.

Everton have suffered just two defeats in their last eight in all competitions (W4, D2, L2), although their clean sheet over Brighton last weekend was their first of this decade after conceding three goals in their opening two games of 2020.

Prediction

West Ham saw their honeymoon period under David Moyes brought crashing down last weekend, but they didn’t disgrace themselves so I am expecting a good game against an Everton team who seemed to have lost their way again.

I therefore am not expecting much from this game given the quality and underperformance of both teams, so a score draw wouldn’t be surprising.

Prediction: West Ham United 1-1 Everton

Result: West Ham United 1-1 Everton
