West Ham United have sacked manager, Manuel Pellegrini after a poor run of results in recent weeks.
The decision to part company with Pellegrini comes after a run of eight points from West Ham’s last 12 league games, including a 2-1 defeat at home to Leicester this evening which left the Hammers just one point above the relegation zone.
West Ham released a short statement, saying;“It is with great disappointment that we’ve had to make this decision. Manuel is a gentleman and it has been a real pleasure to work with someone of his calibre.
“However, it has become clear that that a change is required to get the Club back on track in line with our ambitions this season. We felt it was necessary to act now in order to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal.”
The Hammers also said that ‘Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold, along with the Board and everyone at West Ham United, would like to place on record their thanks to Manuel for his service over the past 18 months.’
For Pellegrini, this marks the second occasion in which he has been dismissed midway through a season as a manager, having previously been released from Hebei China Fortune through mutual consent in May 2018.
Next Manager Odds
David Moyes is currently the Bookies’ favourite to succeed Pellegrini at 1/4 although he could well be another interim appointment, having previously taken interim charge following Slaven Bilic’s sacking in November 2017 before being replaced by Pellegrini.
Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe is also considered as a potential candidate alongside Rafa Benitez, Chris Houghton and Unai Emery, although all four are considered as fairly long shots in the odds.
Whoever takes over will however have an instant task on their hands as the club faces a relegation battle, despite a heavy summer spending spree as they looked to challenge for the European placings.
