2019-20 Premier League: Week 20 – Burnley vs Manchester United

Burnley welcome Manchester United to Turf Moor as the North West rivals meet in Saturday Night Football. 

A home win could put Burnley back into the top half of the table, whereas Man Utd are looking to strengthen their Europa League qualification bid in the race for fifth.

Aaron Lennon is set to be available for Burnley after missing their Boxing Day trip to Everton through illness. 

Ben Gibson could also feature after missing the Clarets’ last three matches with a groin injury. 

Manchester United will be without Scott McTominay after the midfielder suffered a knee injury during their Boxing Day win over Newcastle United. 

Marcos Rojo (groin), Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (both knee) won’t be risked until next weekend as all three near first-team returns. 

Axel Tuanzebe (hamstring) is ruled out for the foreseeable future.

• Burnley are winless in their last nine meetings with Manchester United, since beating the Red Devils at home in August 2009 (D4, L5). 
• Only one of those four draws during their nine match winless came at Turf Moor – drawing 0-0 in August 2014. 
• Man Utd have scored twice in four of their last five meetings with Burnley, only failing to do so in a 1-0 win in January 2018 here courtesy of Anthony Martial’s 54th minute winner. 
• No player has been offside more times than Burnley’s Chris Wood, who has been caught offside on 22 occasions this season. 
• One of Marcus Rashford’s 11 league goals this season for Man Utd has come from his left foot. 

 

Prediction

Burnley were unlucky not to clinch a point at Everton because they defensively kept the Toffees contained, despite making the best of what few chances they had which won’t be enough to beat Man Utd unless the Red Devils’ away wobbles flare up again. 

Man U however have struggled on the road this season but their dominant Boxing Day performance will give them belief to get a result here, even if they have to grind it out somehow. 

I therefore am going for an away win because I can’t see Burnley offering much threat here, although they will keep the result respectable.
