2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 23 – Monday

Blackburn Rovers face Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park in Monday Night Football.

A win for Rovers could send them seventh whilst Wigan will climb out of the relegation zone if they take victory, dropping Luton into the bottom three instead.

Bradley Dack could return for Blackburn after missing their trip to Bristol City last weekend through suspension, having been sent off at Swansea in the previous game.

Derrick Williams (calf) could also be in contention to feature but Greg Cunningham (knee) is still absent.

Wigan could recall Chey Dunkley after he missed their home draw with Huddersfield due to a one match ban.

Charlie Mulgrew is ineligible to face Rovers due to the terms of his loan move to the Latics this season.

David Marshall (neck) and Danny Fox (groin) are unlikely to be included in the squad, whereas Joe Williams (hamstring) and Kieffer Moore (knock) could be available for selection.

Form

Blackburn are unbeaten in their last six league matches (W5, D1) and home games (W4, D2), with Dack netting three goals in two of their last three at Ewood Park.

Wigan have taken just four points from their last ten league games (D4, L6) but have taken just three points from 11 away trips, of which those three points all came courtesy of 2-2 draws with Hull, Bristol City and Millwall respectively.

Stat Attack

  • Blackburn are unbeaten in four of their last five meetings against Wigan (W2, D2, L1).
  • Wigan have lost all four previous Championship meetings with Blackburn, whilst drawing blank in each of their last two visits.
  • There has only been one previous goalless draw out of 28 previous meetings in this fixture, coming at Wigan in October 2017.

Prediction

Blackburn have found their goalscoring boots in recent weeks despite their leaky defence, which is very promising at this stage of the season because I believe that they could well be dark horses in the race for the Play-Offs if Dack and Armstrong can score more goals.

Wigan meanwhile are just on a downward spiral defensively despite scoring in seven of their last eight, and I can’t see them getting much here against a strong Rovers team who should win this quite comfortably despite conceding at some point.

Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Wigan Athletic
