2019-20 Europa League: Group Stage – CFR Cluj vs Celtic

With qualification already assured, Celtic finish off the Group Stage of their Europa League campaign with a trip to CFR Cluj at the Stadionul Dr. Constantin Radulescu.

Celtic will top Group E irrespective of their result but CFR Cluj could join them if they take at least one point, whereas a loss would mean Lazio having to lose at Rennes in order to qualify.

CFR Cluj haven’t made any team news available at time of writing.

Neil Lennon will rotate his Celtic squad with Scott Robertson set for a first senior appearance, whilst Marian Shved is set for his first start.

Scott Brown is absent through suspension and could be joined on sidelines by James Forrest and Callum McGregor plus many other first-team regulars.

Stat Attack

  • Celtic have won just one of three previous meetings with CFR Cluj this season (W1, D1, L1).
  • CFR Cluj has never qualified for the knockout stage of an UEFA tournament.
  • Celtic have come from behind in both of their two away group games this season.

Prediction

It will be interesting to see how Celtic play because they are already through and endured a tough domestic Final on Sunday, which would be the ideal reason to give the youngsters a chance but CFR Cluj are a tough team to beat.

I am therefore expecting a tough battle but a draw would be the best result for both teams here.

Prediction: CFR Cluj 1-1 Celtic

Result: CFR Cluj 2-0 Celtic
