2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 21 – Wednesday

Brentford welcome fellow Championship Play-Off chasers, Cardiff City to Griffin Park as both teams look to continue their push for a top six spot.

Victory for either team could send them seventh if Sheffield Wednesday lose at Derby.

Henrik Dalsgaard and Pontus Jansson could return in Brentford’s defence, having missed Saturday’s defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, due to respective illness and an undisclosed injury.

Sergi Canos and Nikos Karelis are out with knee injuries whilst Joel Valencia is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder.

Cardiff could be without Leandro Bacuna after the midfielder limped off with an ankle injury, during Saturday’s 3-2 home win over Barnsley.

Joe Ralls (groin), Gavin Whyte (undisclosed) and Robert Glatzel (hamstring) could also feature but Sol Bamba (knee) is still absent.

Form

Brentford have taken three wins in their last five matches and have lost just one of their last eight home league games (W4, D3, L1).

Cardiff are unbeaten in their last four matches but have won just one of their last five away games (W1, D2, L2).

Stat Attack

  • Brentford have taken just four points from their last five league meetings with Cardiff (W1, D1, L3).
  • Only one of the six goals scored in the last two meetings between these teams in 2017-18 season came after half-time, via Kenneth Zohore in March 2018 at Griffin Park.
  • Brentford haven’t drawn any of their last ten league games (W6, L4).

Prediction

With both teams in good form, this should be a good match because Cardiff are finally showing their quality of last season, whereas Brentford have made Griffin Park a fortress which Luton found out to their embarrassment 11 days ago.

I therefore can see plenty of goals but Brentford will have the edge given their strong home form.

Prediction: Brentford 3-2 Cardiff City
