2019-20 Premier League: Week 16 – Norwich vs Sheffield United

After suffering defeats in midweek, Norwich City and Sheffield United look to get their seasons back on track as last season’s top two Championship teams meet at Carrow Road.

Norwich can move closer towards safety with victory, whilst Sheffield United look to climb to eighth with a win.

Norwich have no fresh injury concerns as Grant Hanley nears a return from a lengthy groin injury, although he won’t be risked this weekend.

Josip Drmic (thigh) and Timm Klose (knee) are still long-term absentees.

Sheffield United once again have no injury concerns with a full squad available at Chris Wilder’s disposal.

Stat Attack

  • Norwich are unbeaten in three of their last five meetings with Sheffield United (W2, D1, L2).
  • In four previous Premier League meetings, Norwich lost on just one occasion which came here in April 1994 in a 1-0 defeat (W3, L1).
  • Billy Sharp scored three goals for Sheffield United across both meetings last season, including a brace at Carrow Road in January’s 2-2 draw.
  • Tim Krul has made a league-high 12 punches for Norwich this season in 13 appearances.
  • Chris Basham has made a league-high 47 headed clearances for Sheffield United this season.

Prediction

Sheffield United were tactically undone by Newcastle in midweek because the Magpies sat back and blocked their usual wing play, which will make them a dangerous team because Chris Wilder will either stick or mix up his tactics.

Depending on what he does, Norwich will definitely continue to play their usual pressing play, and I can see that potentially working in their favour if they can force the Blades to play more down the middle than out wide.

I therefore can see an open game but Sheffield United don’t do consecutive defeats this season, so a draw would be a decent result.

Prediction: Norwich City 1-1 Sheffield United

Result: Norwich City 1-2 Sheffield United
