Jose Mourinho returns to one of his former clubs as Manchester United meet Tottenham Hotspur in a blockbuster clash at Old Trafford.
United could leapfrog Tottenham with a win and depending on results elsewhere, they could climb to fifth.
Tottenham meanwhile will reclaim fifth from Crystal Palace with a win, although a point will do if Wolves don’t beat West Ham.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesMidfield duo, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic could return for Manchester United from respective ankle and groin injuries.
Paul Pogba (ankle) and Marcos Rojo (muscle) won’t be risked until the weekend, whilst Diogo Dalot (groin), Eric Bailey and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (both knee) remain absent.
Tottenham have no fresh injury concerns as Erik Lamela (hamstring) and Michel Vorm (calf) near a return, although the pair won’t be risked here.
Ben Davies (ankle) and Hugo Lloris (elbow) are both still ruled out.
Stat Attack
- Manchester United have lost three of their last five league meetings with Tottenham (W2, L3).
- Spurs’ 3-0 win last season ended a run of three consecutive 1-0 defeats here in each of the three preceding seasons beforehand.
- Neither Marcus Rashford or Harry Kane have seen their penalties saved nor missed this season.
Prediction
Defence seems to be the biggest issue for both teams because they cannot stop conceding at least two goals in each of their last three games.
Something will surely have to give otherwise we are in for a high scoring cracker, which isn’t something that we normally associate with this league fixture.
This is therefore a tricky fixture to call but Mourinho’s knowledge of the United squad might just give Tottenham the edge tactically.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Result: Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
