2019-20 Premier League: Week 11 – Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur

Having contested an eight goal thriller here last December, Everton and Tottenham meet again at Goodison Park in a crunch Super Sunday match.

Everton can leapfrog Tottenham into 13th with victory whereas Spurs look to move up to eighth with a win here.

Yerry Mina could start for Everton after being subbed before half-time in their midweek Carabao Cup win with a recurrence of a knee injury.

Jean-Phillipe Gbamin (muscle) and Bernard (knee) are both ruled out.

Tottenham will be without Erik Lamela due to a hamstring injury for the second consecutive match.

Jan Vertonghen (hamstring) is a doubt whilst Ryan Sessegnon could make the bench as he continues to slowly regain full match fitness after a lengthy hamstring injury.

Danny Rose is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards whilst Hugo Lloris (elbow) is also ruled out.

Form

Everton have taken just two wins from their last eight games, whilst they have scored in four of their five home league games this season despite taking just three wins.

Tottenham come into this game with just four points from their last five league games, whilst losing two of their last three away league trips by 2-1 results at Leicester and Liverpool respectively plus a 3-0 thumping in Brighton.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have won just two of their last 15 meetings with Tottenham (W2, D6, L7), of which both victories came in March and December of 2012.
  • Two of the last four meetings between these teams at Goodison Park finished 1-1.
  • Everton’s four home wins in all competitions so far this season have come against teams beginning with the letter – W.
  • Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min has hit the woodwork a league high three times this season.
  • No Everton player has made a last man tackle yet this season, whereas Harry Winks is the only Tottenham player to do so on just one occasion.

Prediction

If there’s one thing in common between both teams this season, it is that they have both disappointed so anything could happen here if their respective issues continue to show.

Tottenham however are starting to rediscover that magical click of recent seasons but this is a test of how serious their away niggles are, given that they have often lost by narrow margins on the road this season.

Everton meanwhile need to start producing stronger and clinical performances against teams that don’t start with a W, otherwise they are definitely going to be fighting to avoid relegation this season.

I however am expecting a scrappy game between both teams because their defences don’t really look strong but Spurs’ attack should just about get them a needed win.

Prediction: Everton 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Everton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
