2019-20 Premier League: Week 10 – Watford vs Bournemouth

Watford are still hunting for their first league win of the season as they welcome Bournemouth to Vicarage Road.

Victory for Watford would see them move closer towards their relegation rivals despite staying bottom, whilst Bournemouth could go fifth with a win coupled with anything less for Sheffield United.

Danny Welbeck is ruled out for Watford with a hamstring injury suffered just minutes into last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

Jose Holebas is suspended whilst Etienne Capoue (back), Sebastian Prodl (thigh), Isaac Success (groin) and Troy Deeney (knee) are all ruled out.

Daryl Janmaat is however set to be available after recovering from a slight knock which saw him subbed last weekend.

Bournemouth could have Jefferson Lerma available after a hip injury kept him out of their goalless draw with Norwich last weekend.

David Brooks (ankle), Dan Gosling (groin), Charlie Daniels and Junior Stanislas (both knee) are all still sidelined.

Form

Watford come into this match with four draws from their last six league games, with last weekend’s opener in an eventual 1-1 draw at Tottenham being the only second league match in which they’ve led this season.

Bournemouth are unbeaten in four of their last five whilst keeping their first clean sheet of the season last weekend in a goalless home draw with Norwich.

Stat Attack

  • Watford have lost just one of eight Premier League meetings with Bournemouth (W1, D6, L1).
  • Only one of the six Premier League draws between these teams has finished goalless, doing so in February 2016.
  • Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson netted once in both clashes with Watford last season, with his goals coming either side of half-time.
  • Ben Foster is the only Watford player to have played every minute in the Premier League so far this season, having played 19 more minutes than their best outfield player, Abdoulaye Doucoure.
  • 76.9% of Bournemouth’s 13 league goals so far this season have come from inside the box.

Prediction

Both teams come into this game in consistent form which is a positive given that there has been just one goalless draw between these teams in the Premier League era.

Bournemouth however are currently much stronger across the pitch but if Watford can dig in like Norwich did, I can see a open end-to-end game but this time with goals if both teams take their chances.

Prediction: Watford 1-1 Bournemouth

Result: Watford 0-0 Bournemouth
