Leeds United welcome new league leaders, West Bromwich Albion to Elland Road in a blockbuster top of Championship table clash.
A win could take Leeds back above the Baggies to top spot if other results go their way, whilst their visitors will at least stay at the summit if they take victory.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesLeeds are set to be without Adam Forshaw who has aggravated a hip injury despite not featuring on the bench at the weekend against Charlton.
If unavailable, Forshaw will join Pablo Hernandez on the treatment table as the Spaniard recovers from a similar hip injury.
West Brom could have defenders, Ahmed Hegazi and Kieran Gibbs available if they can prove their fitness as they close in on a return from ankle injuries.
Conor Townsend meanwhile is still sidelined with a nerve issue in his back.
Form
Saturday’s defeat at Charlton was Leeds’ second in their last four league games which is worrying, given that they have scored just one goal in three of their four home league games so far.
West Brom come here with a 100% unbeaten league record and Saturday’s away win at QPR was their first clean sheet of the season, although six of their last seven goals have come in the second half.
Stat Attack
- Leeds’ 4-0 home win in March ended a five match winless run in all competitions against West Brom (W1, D1, L4).
- Both teams netted four goals at home last season, although Leeds did manage to score through Pablo Hernandez in both fixtures unlike the Baggies.
- Leeds have just one less point than the 18 which they had at this stage last season, despite having lost two games already unlike the one defeat this time 12 months ago.
Prediction
After contrasting fortunes at the weekend, I can see a tough battle here between two strong teams going for promotion but West Brom currently have the better momentum coming into this game.
Leeds however are a fearsome team to try and beat at home so if we get a winner, it will be a late one otherwise I am going to go for a draw.
Prediction: Leeds United 1-1 West Bromwich Albion
