2019-20 Premier League: Week Seven – Wolves vs Watford

Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Watford to Molineux in a crucial clash at the foot of the Premier League table.

Wolves could move out of the bottom five with victory plus results elsewhere favouring them, whilst Watford could leapfrog their hosts but will stay in the bottom three on goal difference.

Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo has a full squad available to choose from with no injury or suspension concerns.

Craig Cathcart is set to return to Watford after missing their last three matches with a thigh injury.

Troy Deeney (knee) and Isaac Success (groin) remain sidelined for the Hornets.

Form

Wolves have taken four draws and two defeats from their opening six league games, with all of their four league goals at home coming in the second half although Bruno Jordao scored in the first half on Wednesday in their Carabao Cup win over Reading.

Watford are still winless like Wolves but have drawn two of their last three league outings, before beating Swansea in a midweek Carabao Cup victory.

Stat Attack

  • Wolves won just one of their three meetings with Watford last season in all competitions (W1, L2).
  • Raul Jimenez scored in the latter two meetings which both came in April this year.
  • Wolves have lost just two of their last five home league meetings with Watford (W1, D2, L2).
  • Joao Moutinho has made 22 tackles so far this season for Wolves, more than any other Wolves or Watford player.
  • Rui Patricio is yet to make a sweeper clearance for Wolves this season whereas Watford’s Ben Foster has made one sweeper clearance.

Prediction

Both teams haven’t had the best of starts but Wolves at least have been playing like champions in scraping together their points, which stands them in good stead here for what should be a competitive clash.

I however feel that defending is going to be crucial here and Wolves have that extra quality up front to finally scrape that first domestic win of the season, particularly given Jimenez’s record this year against the Hornets.

Prediction: Wolves 2-1 Watford

Result: Wolves 2-0 Watford
