2019-20 Premier League: Week Six – Burnley vs Norwich

Having stunned the reigning champions –  Manchester City last time out, Norwich will be keen to cause another shock as they visit Burnley at Turf Moor.

Both teams are two and three points respectively above the drop making a win here crucial to the long-term survival hopes of either club.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is a doubt for Burnley as he struggles to overcome a calf injury.

Danny Drinkwater (ankle) remains the Clarets’ only definite absentee.

Norwich have no fresh injury concerns as eight players remain sidelined for the foreseeable future, although Patrick Roberts can return after being ineligible to face his parent club – Man City last weekend.

Mario Vrancic and Moritz Leitner both featured in training this week after calf injuries but remain potential doubts.

Timm Klose (knee), Christoph Zimmerman (foot), Onel Hernandez (knee), Tom Trybull and Max Aarons (both ankle) all remain ruled out.

Form

Burnley haven’t won since the opening weekend, taking two draws and defeats apiece since then on top of an early Carabao Cup exit against Sunderland.

Norwich have just two wins so far this season with both coming in the league, although they are yet to keep a clean sheet.

Stat Attack

  • This is the first Premier League meeting between Burnley and Norwich.
  • Burnley have lost one of their last five meetings with Norwich in all competitions (W2, D2, L1).
  • Both teams have scored in their last four meetings in all competitions.
  • Norwich’s Tim Krul has made five punches, which is currently more than any other goalkeeper this season.
  • Burnley have made the fourth most saves so far this season, with 21 saves from Nick Pope.

Prediction

Norwich last weekend were a totally different beast despite their injury crisis but Burnley are a tough team to quieten, given their excellent defensive tactics which will pose issues for the Canaries when on the attack.

I definitely do see goals here given the lack of clean sheets from either team but Burnley have the stronger depth needed to mix up their tactics, which should give them the winning edge.

Prediction: Burnley 2-1 Norwich

Result: Burnley 2-0 Norwich
