2019-20 Premier League: Week Six – Southampton vs Bournemouth

Southampton take on South Coast rivals, Bournemouth at St Marys’ Stadium in Friday Night Football. 

With both teams level on seven points, victory for either team will put them third ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Southampton could have Nathan Redmond available if the winger passes a late fitness test, having spent recent weeks sidelined with an ankle injury. 

Moussa Djenepo however is ruled out with a muscular issue suffered in training this week. 

Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly could make his first competitive appearance for the Cherries here after regaining full match fitness, having suffered ankle ligament damage in pre-season. 

Simon Francis is also close to a first-team return but won’t be risked here ahead of their Carabao Cup trip to Burton on Wednesday. 

Adam Smith (hamstring), Dan Gosling (groin), David Brooks (ankle), Arnaut Danjuma (foot), Charlie Daniels and Junior Stanislas (both knee) are all ruled out.  

 

Form

Southampton are unbeaten in their last three league games, although their two victories in that run have come away from home with clean sheets. 

Bournemouth are yet to keep a clean sheet but ended a two match run of 3-1 defeats by taking victory over Everton last Sunday by that same scoreline. 

 

Stat Attack

• Southampton have lost just one of eight Premier League meetings with Bournemouth (W3, D4, L1). 
• Two of their last five meetings have finished goalless.
• Bournemouth’s Steve Cook has made the third most clearances in five games this season, producing 32 clearances. 
• Che Adams is the only Southampton player to hit the woodworks so far this season. 
• Outside of the Big Six, Bournemouth have scored the most goals from outside the box, doing so on three occasions. 

 

Prediction

Southampton currently have some solid momentum behind them but Bournemouth as ever will be a dangerous team to stop when on the attack. 

I therefore can see a draw here but it will be a great match full of entertainment, which is often the case between these two.
