Brighton & Hove Albion will be looking to continue their unbeaten start under Graham Potter as they welcome Southampton to the Amex Stadium.
Victory coupled with other results going their way could see Brighton temporarily go top whilst Southampton are still searching for their first win of the season.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesBrighton have no fresh injury concerns to report as Jose Izquierdo and Ezequiel Schelotto remain sidelined with knee injuries, alongside Yves Bissouma (shoulder).
Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl has a full squad available for selection after goalkeeper, Alex McCarthy returned to training this week.
Form
Brighton come into this match on a two game unbeaten run after following their opening weekend win over Watford up with a draw last time out against West Ham.
Southampton meanwhile are still searching for their first win of the season after losing to Burnley and Liverpool in their opening two league games.
Stat Attack
- Three of Brighton’s four previous Premier League meetings with Southampton have ended in draws (D3, L1).
- Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored in both league meetings against the Seagulls last season.
- None of the last eight meetings have finished in a goalless draw since November 2010 in League One at Southampton’s St Marys.
- Southampton have played 171 long balls already this season, more than any other team.
- No Brighton player is yet to hit the woodwork this season.
Prediction
With Brighton currently impressing under Graham Potter, I am expecting Southampton to face a tough afternoon if they don’t improve from a shaky performance last weekend against Liverpool.
I therefore can’t see Southampton winning unless they mix up their tactics because they did a solid job at Burnley a fortnight ago, and if can replicate that performance here against a solid Brighton side then a draw is a good bet.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1-1 Southampton
Result: Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Southampton
