2018-19 Premier League: Week 35 – Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Just days after meeting here in a seven goal thriller in their Champions League Quarter-Final, Manchester City aim to extract revenge on Tottenham Hotspur in a blockbuster Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

A win will send the Citizens until at least Sunday evening whilst victory could see Spurs move closer towards a top four finish.

Fernandinho could start for Manchester City after coming on as a sub in midweek.

Oleksandr Zinchenko will face a late fitness test as he looks to return from a thigh injury but Claudio Bravo remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Tottenham will hand English midfield duo of Harry Winks and Eric Dier late fitness tests after recent respective groin and hip injuries.

Moussa Sissoko however looks unlikely to feature after suffering a groin issue here on Wednesday night

Vincent Janssen meanwhile could be set to make his first appearance of the season after battling an ankle injury for the majority of this season.

Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela remain out with thigh injuries, alongside Harry Kane who is recovering from ankle ligament damage.

Form

Manchester City enter this game with one defeat in their last 16 matches across all competitions and kept four clean sheets in their last seven home games.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last two league matches, having taken just a single point from their previous five beforehand with three 2-1 defeats during that period.

Stat Attack

  • Manchester City have lost just one of their last six meetings with Tottenham in all competitions (W4, D1, L1).
  • Under Pep Guardiola, City are unbeaten in three home clashes with Spurs (W2, D1).
  • The Citizens have netted four goals in each of their last two home matches against Tottenham, with the North Londoners netting the same number but across both meetings.
  • Manchester City have netted 86 goals in 33 games this season, 20 less than they managed throughout entirety of last season.
  • Christian Eriksen is one of three players to achieve 12 Premier League assists this season so far, alongside Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser and Eden Hazard of Chelsea.
  • Man City are yet to score an own goal this season, whereas Spurs have already put three in back of their own net.
  • Only one of Raheem Sterling’s goals for City this season has come from outside the box.

Prediction

I can’t see another entertaining game here because with this being their third meeting in 11 days, both teams will have one another sussed out.

Throw in the fact that both teams have midweek games coming up then I can see a relatively quiet game here, but City are the better in-form side so am going for a home win.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Jake predicts: Manchester City 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur
