This weekend sees Formula One head to Shanghai for not only the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix but also their 1000th race.

There have been so many highlights and top drivers from over the years and this year already looks no different as Valtteri Bottas comes into this race leading his teammate, Lewis Hamilton by a single point in the Drivers’ Championship.

Ferrari however are back to their best and after a dominant weekend in Bahrain let down by reliability trouble, can they join the title fight from here on in?

Three Pointers

  • Only three drivers have won more than once around here with Lewis Hamilton (2008, 11, 14, 15 & 17) the only member still racing out of that trio, with Nico Rosberg (2012 & 16) and Fernando Aonso (2005 & 13) both retired.
  • Mercedes will be real threats given that they have had at least one driver on the podium here since 2012, and have failed to win just one of last five Chinese GPs unlike Ferrari who are yet to win around here in the turbo era.
  • Williams need to rapidly find some improvement otherwise they will enter double digits in terms of consecutive races without any points for the first time since switching to a two driver team.

If missed the opening two rounds of this season, get up to date with Craig Telford’s race reviews.
