2018-19 Premier League: Week 31 – Burnley vs Leicester

Relegation threatened Burnley welcome Europa League chasing Leicester City to Turf Moor in a decisive Premier League clash.

Victory for the Clarets will move them closer to safety whilst Leicester are looking for their first away win under Brendan Rodgers.

Burnley have no fresh injury concerns although Aaron Lennon may feature before end of season, if he makes a full recovery from a knee injury. 

Steven Defour (calf) and Jonathan Walters however are definitely absent until next season. 

Leicester also have no fresh injury concerns with Marc Albrighton (hamstring), Matty James and Daniel Amartey (ankle) ruled out until next season. 

 

Form

Burnley are winless in their last three league games after going unbeaten in previous eight beforehand.

The Clarets however have lost just two of their last seven home games, despite scoring in each of those matches.

Leicester meanwhile head to Turf Moor with two wins from their last three, but are winless in their last four away games.

The Foxes have also scored in all but one of their last nine away games across all competitions.

• Burnley have avoided defeat in four of last seven Premier League meetings with Leicester (W2, D2, L3). 
• The Clarets are unbeaten in last two home meetings with Leicester, having lost the previous four beforehand with just one goal during that period.
• Leicester have made the joint second highest amount of crosses this season, producing 638 crosses alongside Everton. Only Huddersfield has produced more, managing 647 crosses. 
• Ashely Westwood has assisted in six of Burnley’s goals this season compared to just once last season. 
• One of Leicester’s last five goals in this fixture came from a Ben Mee own goal in September 2016. 
• Leicester are yet to register any away points in 2019 outside of Merseyside where they beat Everton and drew with Liverpool. 
• Burnley have never won three consecutive home matches against one opponent in the Premier League. 

 

Prediction 

This is a must win for both teams as Burnley could pile pressure on their relegation rivals with a win, whilst Leicester can reignite their top seven bid with all three points. 

The Foxes’ away form however has been poor in 2019 and against a solid attacking Burnley side, I can see a home win here if not a draw.
