2018-19 UEFA Europa League: Last 16 First Leg – Chelsea vs Dynamo Kiev

2013 winners, Chelsea will be looking to move closer towards their second Europa League title as they welcome Dynamo Kiev to Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their Last 16 tie.

Chelsea have no fresh injury concerns with Danny Drinkwater (tendon) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) their only two long-term absentees.

Dynamo Kiev will be without winger, Benjamin Verbic after he collected a one match ban by picking up a yellow card in their last round against Olympiakos.

Other than Verbic, Kiev have a full squad available.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea are unbeaten from two previous meetings with Dynamo Kiev, drawing the first in Ukraine before beating them 2-1 at home in 2015-16 Champions League Group Stage.
  • Kiev have never won in England in 14 visits (D3, L11).
  • Dynamo are winless in last nine knockout first legs of Europa League, last achieving such a victory against Manchester City in March 2011.

Prediction

Chelsea have suffered just one home defeat in 2019 and given Dynamo Kiev’s terrible form on English soil, I fancy them to be rather comfortable here although the visitors will probably nick one if lucky.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Dynamo Kiev

Result: Chelsea 3-0 Dynamo Kiev
