2018-19 Premier League: Week 29 – Everton vs Liverpool

Everton welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park as the 233rd Merseyside derby concludes an action packed Super Sunday.

Marcos Silva’s Everton can keep their faint hopes of a top seven finish alive with victory whilst Liverpool will return top if can pick up the three points.

Everton have no fresh injury concerns with Leighton Baines their only absentee through a rib injury.

Liverpool could again be without Roberto Firmino as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

Dejan Lovren is close to full fitness following a recurrent hamstring injury but won’t be risked here.

Joe Gomez (leg) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) are still a month away from featuring but have stepped up their rehabilitation.

Form

Everton enter this derby off the back of just two league wins in last six, although only two of those games were at home.

At home, they however have won just one of their last five and scored three goals across two of those games.

Liverpool meanwhile are unbeaten in last seven but drawn three of their last five.

Away from Anfield, the Reds’ only league defeat this season came at Manchester City, drawing two of their three since then.

Stat Attack

  • Everton are winless in last 18 meetings with Liverpool across all competitions (D9, L9).
  • Five of last six Merseyside derbies at Goodison Park have finished level.
  • The last occasion in which Liverpool entered this fixture sitting top of Premier League was in January 2009, drawing 1-1 at home.
  • Alisson has kept 16 clean sheets so far this season, more than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League.
  • 41.9% of Liverpool’s shots have been on target this season, compared to 39.3% of Manchester City’s shots

Prediction

Everton are going to have to dig deep here because Liverpool are looking tough to beat and three consecutive league clean sheets will only bolster their beliefs even more.

I therefore can see only one result here if the Reds play like they did in midweek against Watford but this will be a hard fought battle.

Prediction: Everton 0-2 Liverpool

Jake predicts: Everton 2-2 Liverpool

Result: Everton 0-0 Liverpool
