2018-19 Premier League: Week 24 – Wednesday

After a hectic Tuesday of Premier League football, Liverpool can take advantage of Manchester City’s slip up by moving seven points clear if beat Leicester at Anfield.

Other highlights includes Chelsea’s trip to Bournemouth whilst Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to bounce back against Watford.

This is an important match for Chelsea if they’re to keep pace with Tottenham but Bournemouth are a tough side at home.

The Cherries have won four of their last five home games but have been in freefall since November, with just 10 points out of a possible 39 which would probably be relegation form if they hadn’t had their strong start to the season.

Chelsea meanwhile have been solid in last two outings but have that defensive vulnerability against fellow top flight teams with two of their three clean sheets this month coming in FA Cup against Championship sides.

I therefore am expecting a tough battle here but the Blues should have enough in them to get the win.

Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Chelsea

Jake predicts: Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

Result: Bournemouth 4-0 Chelsea

Southampton vs Crystal Palace

With both teams on 22 points apiece and three clear of the drop, Southampton and Crystal Palace know a win here could be key come May.

Under Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Saints have improved their attacking game but defence is still suspect at times. They however have had 10 days to focus on tightening up that area whilst Palace comfortably battered Tottenham in FA Cup on Sunday.

If they have used that free time wisely then there’s no reason for any poorly conceded goals against the Eagles, who tend to fare better away from home.

With relegation worries, I have a slight feeling that we might see a draw here but am going for Southampton to edge this.

Prediction: Southampton 1-0 Crystal Palace

Result: Southampton 1-1 Crystal Palace

Liverpool vs Leicester City (8:00pm)

Following Manchester City’s shock defeat at Newcastle, Liverpool has a massive opportunity to seize the initiative here if can see off Leicester.

Whilst Liverpool are a difficult team to beat, the Foxes have won two of their last three away games, which have all come against sides currently above them.

Throw in the fact that these teams have only failed to score in four league games between them this season, then expect to see goals here.

I am however going for a Liverpool win because its hard to see them passing up a glorious opportunity to extend their lead in the title race.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Leicester City

Jake predicts: Liverpool 0-0 Leicester City

Result: Liverpool 1-1 Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford (8:00pm)

With key players absent and back-to-back defeats for first time since a run of three losses across all competitions back in September, Tottenham need a huge win here to revitalise their title bid.

Currently nine points off Liverpool, a win here coupled with Reds defeat would cut the gap down to six points entering a key period in the season.

Watford however are unbeaten in their last six across all competitions and rested several first team regulars at weekend.

That is a huge indication of Javi Garcia’s priorities because with seventh place achievable as well as a cup if luck goes their way, he clearly wants the Hornets fighting on all fronts for rest of season.

Spurs however have Son Heung-min back and if Watford do score first, I fancy him to come off bench and snatch a late point.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Watford

Jake predicts: Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 Watford

Result: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Watford
