With one more round before Christmas, Liverpool can secure the Premier League Xmas number one spot if can see off Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux in Friday Night Football.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesWolves will be without midfielder, Diogo Jota after the Portuguese international suffered a hamstring strain.
Other than Jota, Nuno Espirito Santo has a full squad to choose from for this match.
Liverpool could have James Milner back after he sat out their win over Manchester United with a thigh injury.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss this match as he recovers from a foot injury but could return on Boxing Day.
Joe Gomez (ankle) and Joel Matip (shoulder) are ruled out until mid January as the Reds remain without long-term absentee, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain until next season.
Form
Wolves enter this match on a three match unbeaten run, having taken just one point from their previous six beforehand.
During this three match winning run, they have scored twice in each game with first goals in last two outings coming in first half then their second during injury time of second half.
Liverpool however in scintillating league form with no defeats yet and won their last six games. They have also scored at least three in four of last five away games.
During that run, they have kept clean sheets in two of their three away games with both coming down south.
Stat Attack
- Wolves have won two of last five meetings with Liverpool (W2, L3).
- At Molineux, Wolves have drawn three of their last five clashes with Liverpool but lost their last two league meetings here by 3-0 results (D3, L2).
- Wolves have a DLW record from three meetings with three ‘Big Six’ members at home so far this season.
- Two of last three Liverpool managers lost their first meetings with Wolves, with only Kenny Dalglish avoiding defeat during all three meetings within his second spell with the Reds (W1,L2).
- Last three Liverpool managers who faced Wolves at least twice avoided defeat in their second outing (W2, D1).
- Liverpool have scored 19 goals on the road this season, including an own goal in their favour. During this run, 12 of their 18 scored away goals have come in second half.
Prediction
Given the form of both teams, we should see a good game here with both sides pressing each other hard.
Wolves will probably try and play on counter which will suit Liverpool nicely and I therefore can see them winning. Wolves should however nick one seeing as they have scored against four members of the ‘Big Six’ but won’t be enough here though.
Prediction: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Liverpool
Jake predicts: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-3 Liverpool
Result: Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-2 Liverpool
