2017-18 Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs Semi Finals: First Legs

Coventry, Exeter City, Lincoln City and Notts County are contesting this season’s Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs.

Lincoln meet Exeter in the afternoon game, over a month on from a five goal thriller at Sincil Bank between these sides, so will there be more drama in store?

Coventry meanwhile will be looking to make an instant return to League One against Notts County, who have improved since last season.

Lincoln need to rediscover the magic of their 3-2 Good Friday win in this fixture, if they are to get a strong result here having lost the previous four meetings beforehand.

The last time that the Imps ended a four match losing streak in this fixture, they won the following three, giving them an incentive here to repeat the feat of 1982.

Exeter meanwhile were in this position last season and made the final after a 6-5 aggregate win over Carlisle United.

Lincoln City made five straight appearances in Play-Offs stage between 2003-07 and reached the final on two of those occasions.

Interestingly, Exeter faced the most shots this season in League Two whilst Lincoln have faced the least number of shots on target, so expect a competitive match here.

Exeter’s Jayden Stockley however is in form for the Grecians, scoring seven goals in his last eight, whilst Lincoln have plenty of different goal scorers capable of turning this game on its head.

With this being the first leg and bearing in mind that Lincoln has turned a four match losing streak into a winning run before, I can see them getting a win here.

Prediction: Lincoln City 2-1 Exeter City

Result: Lincoln City 0-0 Exeter City

Coventry City vs Notts County (7:30pm)

This clash should be an interesting one because Coventry’s last two home wins in this fixture have been by 3-0 results.

Add in the fact that Coventry have never been in any Play-Offs before whereas Notts County have made five appearances, reaching the final on their last three Play-Off appearances.

Those who have finished fifth or sixth in past decade have only gone on to claim promotion on two occasions, so this will be a tough ask for the winner of this tie.

Realistically, we shouldn’t expect much given the Sky Blues’ recent home form and Notts County’s terrible away form of two wins in last 11 on the road.

I therefore can see a dull affair here with a draw.

Prediction: Coventry City 0-0 Notts County
