Manchester United vs Arsenal

Manchester United welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford for the second Super Sunday game as Jose Mourinho locks horns with Arsene Wenger one last time.

Over the years, both rivalries between clubs and managers respectively have produced classics, so will the Mourinho/Wenger rivalry end on a high?

Team news

Manchester United could have Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia available, after the pair overcame Achilles and calf injuries respectively.

Argentinean goalkeeper, Sergio Romero remains ruled out with a knee injury.

Arsenal could hand Henrikh Mkhitaryan a start against his former side, having recovered from a knee injury.

Mohamed Elneny (ankle) and Santi Cazorla (calf) are both close to returning but remain ruled out till at least the final game of the season.

Form

Manchester United come into this game, having lost just two of last nine games in all competitions (W6 D1 L2).

At home, United lost last time out to West Bromwich Albion to end an eight home match unbeaten run (W6 D2).

Arsenal come here off the back of a disappointing midweek draw at home to Atletico Madrid in their Europa League semi-final.

League wise, the Gunners have been inconsistent throughout 2018.

Out of a possible 39 points, Arsenal have earned a modest 19 with them all coming at home with an atrocious away form.

On the road, Arsenal have lost all five league games and lost three of them by a 2-1 result.

The Gunners’ top scorers from last five league games are Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

Stat Attack

Where can game be won or lost?

Per Game Average Manchester United (home Arsenal (away)
Corners 6 5.19
Fouls 10.94 10.69
Shots 14.76 13.69
Shots on Target 5.24 4.56
Goals 2.06 1.06
Yellow Cards 1.47 1.81
Red Cards 0 0
Goals per First Half % 42.9 35.3
Goals per Second Half % 57.1 64.7

This match could really go down to the wire because there is not a lot between these sides.

Both teams are equally matched in discipline and attack so it’s tough to see where this game will be won or lost, except in the goals section.

Manchester United have averaged a whole goal more at home than what Arsenal have managed on the road, so clinical finishing might very well be key.

Another element to throw into mix is that both teams find their goals more after half time, making this a potential slow burner.

It’s that hard to split these sides so don’t be surprised if get a tight end to match or even a draw.

Prediction

Although both teams look evenly matched all over the pitch, I reckon that Arsenal’s miserable away form domestically might cost them here.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal

Jake predicts: Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal

Result: Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal
