Duel for Europe

After an interesting Saturday, the top four battle takes centre stage as Liverpool host Southampton, before a huge game between fifth and sixth as the duel for Europe hots up.

Manchester United travel to Arsenal looking to keep up their Champions League bid. The Gunners however will be keen to win all their remaining games as they look for another top four finish.

Liverpool vs Southampton

These sides have met on three occasions already this season with Jurgen Klopp’s side not scoring a single goal.

The reverse league fixture ended in a goalless draw whilst their League Cup semi saw the Saints secure a 1-0 win in both fixtures, to reach Wembley 2-0 on aggregate.

Liverpool will be looking for some home salvation after picking up just 14 points at home in 2017 so far.

Despite making considerable progress, Klopp has managed a similar record to his predecessor, Brendan Rodgers.

On that note, you have to question whether he is the man to take the red side of Merseyside back into the Champions League.

Southampton have only won once at Anfield since making their Premier League return in 2012-13. That victory came in September 2013 with the goal scored by Dejan Lovren, who now plays for the home side.

Claude Puel will be confident of a result given that his side have scored seven of their league wins on a Sunday.

A draw here seems likely but Southampton have had the upper hand against Liverpool under Klopp. With Charlie Austin back, expect them to deliver the three points and heap pressure on the Reds.

Prediction: Liverpool 0-1 Southampton

Result: Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

Arsenal vs Manchester United

Arsenal MUST show up here after being annihilated by Tottenham last weekend.

The Gunners have been woeful since the FA Cup started but that is no excuse for the lack of performance in league fixtures.

Fans are already at the end of their tether with the club, players and Arsene Wenger so winning here is vital to keeping them happy.

Manchester United are likely to field a weakened side here with Jose Mourinho prioritising the Europa League.

There has been talk of several U23 players being given a run out here.

If Mourinho does go down that path, expect Arsenal to find themselves in a position of being the favourites.

Wenger has only beaten Mourinho on one occasion and with the Red Devils unbeaten in 25 league games, it will be difficult even if the likes of Mesut Ozil and Aleix Sanchez are facing Marcus Rashford or a bunch of young players.

Given how heavy of a fixture pile up both sides have in the coming weeks, expect a draw here.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United

Result: Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United
