Leeds United vs Middlesbrough

This Sunday sees one of the most highly anticipated games of the season as former Leeds’ manager Garry Monk takes his Boro team to his old stopping ground at Elland Road.

After a great start to the season under new boss Thomas Christiansen, which saw Leeds go unbeaten in the first nine games of the season in all competitions, Leeds now find themselves 10th in the league and without a win in their last four games.

Boro on the other hand are the polar opposite to their opponents when it comes to form.

After a less than impressive start to the season under Garry Monk, Middlesbrough finally seem to have turned a corner under the ex-Leeds United manager.

After winning three games on the bounce against Reading, Hull and Sunderland, Boro find themselves in fifth place. They ’re however still playing catch up on the teams above them as they sit seven points behind Sheffield United who take up the last automatic promotion spot.

Team News

Middlesbrough go into this game with no fresh injury concerns and are boosted by the return of striker Rudy Gestede who starting training last week.

The Benin international was heavily linked with Leeds over the summer as the Yorkshire club had a bid of around £6m rejected by the Teessiders.

Garry Monk will most likely keep his team unchanged as his side are starting to pick up form and momentum going into Christmas.

Leeds welcome back Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban for the clash against Middlesbrough this Sunday. The striker has missed a lengthy amount of this season through injury and will be hoping to at least make the bench in a crucial match this weekend.

Last Time Out

Middlesbrough were held by a stubborn Leeds United as they drew 0-0 at Elland Road, the game was overshadowed by the death of Boro icon and BBC Tees commentator Ali Brownlee.

Boro had a goal wrongly disallowed as the linesman had judged that Albert Adomah had ran out of play with the ball before crossing, but in fact it turned out the ball was still in play and Jordan Rhodes header should’ve stood.

Ben Gibson was sent off late in the game as Boro held out for a point.

Going into this game both teams have a point to prove.

Garry Monk will want to show that he made the right decision swapping Leeds for Boro, whereas the Leeds players will want to prove a point and get one over their ex boss.

The game will be feisty affair and won’t be a pretty game of football, however I think Boro will just nick it and take away all three points.

Prediction: Leeds 0-1 Middlesbrough

Result: Leeds 2-1 Middlesbrough

Thanks for reading.

Let me know how you think Boro will get on this weekend.
