Merseyside vs North London

This weekend’s Super Sunday sees Merseyside face North London in the Premier League.

Everton host Arsenal in the lunchtime match at Goodison Park before Tottenham then host Liverpool down at Wembley in the late game.

Everton vs Arsenal

Everton need a win here to end a disastrous run of two wins in 12 games and ease the pressure on Ronald Koeman.

Arsenal are on a decent run of form in contrast with six wins and a draw prior to last weekend’s defeat at Watford.

The last time that the Gunners played two consecutive away games came in August and lost both matches by a 5-0 scoreline aggregate.

Everton did shows signs of actual development as a team on Thursday night in Europa League. If can iron out defensive mistakes, they will have a decent shout of the win here because Arsenal are unstable on the road.

Ronald Koeman himself will be glad to face Arsenal this weekend, given that they struggle on his turf after losing their last three trips to a team managed by the Dutch boss.

What will be key here is who has the more desire because both teams have problems to deal with.

Everton’s problems has stemmed from poor on pitch results whilst Arsenal have several players linked with moves away to distract them.

Now if look at technical side, both teams have their pros and flaws.

Everton have dominated everything from corners to shots on targets but struggle to create goals. Their home goals average is just 0.75 compared to 1.25 of those visiting Goodison Park.

Arsenal also dominate corners and fouls over their hosts so far but when it comes to clinical finishing, they are outnumbered on average by the opposition in terms of shots, shots on target and goals.

Goals wise, the Gunners have scored all of their away goals before half time so the longer things stay 0-0, the more things will come towards Everton, who have scored 66.7% of their home goals in second half.

Ultimately, a draw would be the best scenario given that both were in action on Thursday but Arsenal’s travels to Serbia is bound to eventually catch up with them, allowing a late Toffee winner.

Prediction: Everton 1-0 Arsenal

Result: Everton 2-5 Arsenal

Tottenham vs Liverpool

Tottenham know that victory here would put them level with Manchester United as the title race hots up.

Liverpool have however shown plenty of attacking intent since club action resumed last weekend, holding Man Utd before thrashing NK Maribor on Tuesday in the Champions League.

The first half will definitely be key because all of Spurs’ home goals have come after half time.

Liverpool however have scored four of their seven league away goals before half time compared to three afterwards.

Both teams dominate their opposition shots wise having averaged a combined 38.5 (Spurs 22 – home, Liverpool 16.5 – away) shots to the opposition’s average of 18.25.

When comes to turning those shots on target, Spurs have fared better with an average 6.25 shots on goal compared to Liverpool’s four.

Wembley however hasn’t been a happy goal ground for the Lilywhites this season, scoring an average 0.75 goals, which is matched by their visitors’ average.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds however have an higher average, albeit away from Anfield. They have averaged 1.75 away goals but their hosts have averaged a whole goal more with 2.75 goals.

Based on those stats, a draw is likely and the recent history backs this theory up because the last two meetings in London have ended in draws. Spurs also are winless in nine league meetings with Liverpool further backing the idea of a draw up.

Ultimately, I think the temptation of drawing level with Jose Mourinho and his Red Devils will give Tottenham that extra desire to win this.

To leapfrog them into second, Spurs need nine goals here but I can see them at least getting the three points.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool

Jake predicts: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool

Result: Tottenham 4-1 Liverpool
