2017-18 FA Cup first round draw highlights

The 2017-18 FA Cup is now officially underway following the first round proper draw.

From 40 ties, there are plenty some gems so which ties stand out from Sport Grill’s perspective?

Guiseley v Accrington Stanley

High flying Accrington Stanley will certainly view this game as winnable.

Guiseley are struggling in the National League but can use this home tie as a potential spring board to improve.

Ultimately, this is a great David v Goliath tie for the neutrals because an Accrington defeat at Nethermoor Park would be a proper cupset.

Boreham Wood v Blackpool

Boreham Wood are going well in National League so will be a tough test for Blackpool.

The Tangerines are solidly settled back in League One so will be confident of victory here.

With players like Mark Cullen and ex Bolton Wanderers stars, Jay Spearing and Max Clayton in their ranks, this looks like could be a comfortable away win.

But at a non league ground, a cupset is never far away.

Shaw Lane v Mansfield Town

Defeat here for Mansfield would be disastrous for Steve Evans and his Mansfield Town squad.

Shaw Lane might be down in the seventh tier but are currently third top on goal difference.

Only Altrincham and Warrington Town sit above them and both have previous FA Cup experience themselves. Could that provide the Ducks some confidence for this tie?

Home advantage will also be a huge factor given that Mansfield’s players are bound to have not played on a pitch of a seventh tier side, making them vulnerable for a cupset.

Ultimately, this looks like it could be a good tie given the difference in league quality and this being the FA Cup.

AFC Wimbledon v Lincoln City

Although this is a League One vs League Two tie, Lincoln will be no pushovers.

Last season, the Imps managed to make the last eight so know what is needed to win in this competition.

AFC Wimbledon are struggling just above them in the third tier and need a cup run themselves to get their season kick started.

Both teams are also yet to meet in any sort of fixture so this will be a intriguing match to watch.
