Carabao Cup third round: Aston Villa vs Middlesbrough

Today in the Carabao Cup, we see Middlesbrough travel to Villa Park.

Last time out

Only this time last week Middlesbrough were getting ready to face Villa at Villa Park in a league game, consequently the game finished 0-0 with both sides having a man sent off.

Team News

Today we will see a much changed team as both sides will rotate with it being a cup game.

Garry Monk will be expected to rest key players but he will be without Adam Clayton and Adama Traore as they miss the game through suspension.

The game will come too soon for Martin Braithwaite who is still out with injury but did start training again last week.

With both sides set to ring the changes, today’s game will be an interesting encounter.

Both managers will give fringe players to stack a claim and force themselves into the match day league squad and I expected the game today to be close.

Personally, I can see this game going to extra time and penalties and I reckon Aston Villa will get the luck of the draw and win.

Aston Villa 2-2 Middlesbrough (Villa to win on penalties)

Result: Aston Villa 0-2 Middlesbrough
