Best of rest

With all of Sky’s TV picks featuring red vs blue clubs this weekend, here is a round up of the remaining best Premier League games.

Liverpool vs Burnley

Liverpool will want a domestic response to Saturday’s 5-0 destruction at Manchester City. Burnley however will fancy their chances of getting something.

The Reds are defensively wobbly as demonstrated twice in last seven days. If they aren’t solid here, Burnley’s Chris Wood and Sam Vokes will be there to pounce.

Anfield has however been a difficult ground for the Clarets with Liverpool winning all previous home games against Burnley.

Both teams are great attack wise but not having Sadio Mane suspended, just swings it Burnley’s way for me.

Prediction: Liverpool 0-1 Burnley

Jake predicts: Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

Result: Liverpool 1-1 Burnley

Newcastle United vs Stoke City

Rafa Benitez returns to the dugout, having missed Newcastle’s win at Swansea whilst recovering from a hernia op.

This is however a tough home game because Stoke have been the Magpies’ bogey team in recent years. Stoke however have only won at St James Park on four occasions in nearly 30 years.

Benitez is unbeaten against Stoke, whose away record in North East is poor with just one win in 12 Premier League visits.

That however probably counts for little because Stoke have brought in some impressive players this summer. Those signings will give them the edge and three points here.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Stoke

Jake predicts: Newcastle 2-2 Stoke

Result: Newcastle 2-1 Stoke

Watford vs Manchester City

Both sides are unbeaten so expect a proper test of each other’s abilities here.

Watford boss, Marco Silva will be hoping that his Hornets can repeat his standards from his time at Hull, when the big teams struggled on their visits there last season.

One issue is that Manchester City has not lost to Watford in any of their past Premier League meetings.

City’s danger man is Gabriel Jesus, who’s yet to taste the feeling of defeat and has scored in 10 of his 12 starts.

They however travel to Vicarage Road with the worst disciplinary record so far this season.

Its easy to say that this is Man City’s but if Watford can push them hard and force them into a red card, they can get a point here.

Prediction: Watford 1-1 Manchester City

Jake predicts: Watford 1-2 Manchester City

Result: Watford 0-6 Manchester City

West Bromwich Albion vs West Ham United

Both teams meet in contrasting spirits.

West Brom suffered a shock loss at Brighton last weekend whilst the Hammers finally got their first league win of this season.

Interestingly, this meeting comes a year to the same weekend that these teams met in similar form. That meeting saw the Baggies beat West Ham 4-2. Could another thriller be on the cards?

Both teams don’t tend to score well but Tony Pulis has lost just one meeting with the East Londoners.

Slaven Bilic however will want to follow up Monday’s win with their second away win in last 11 away games. If Andy Carroll is fit, he could be key during the Baggies’ set pieces along with Joe Hart.

Hart has won on his last four trips to the Hawthorns with Manchester City so will want that stat to translate across to his loan club.

I definitely expect a tough match here but West Brom got enough to get that home win.

Prediction: West Brom 2-1 West Ham

Jake predicts: West Brom 2-0 West Ham

Result: West Brom 0-0 West Ham

Tottenham vs Swansea

Tottenham will be looking to continue their progress, having scored six goals in last week against Everton then Borussia Dortmund.

This is a tough fixture for a Swansea side, who haven’t left Spurs’ ground with a win since 1930. I definitely can see that wait continuing because their defence won’t be able to handle the partnership of Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

Swansea however are unbeaten in last four away games and bolster a potential game changer in Renato Sanches. If he can conjure some magic here, I expect them to leave Wembley with a point.

In the end, I can’t see past a Spurs victory.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Swansea

Jake predicts: Tottenham 3-0 Swansea

Result: Tottenham 0-0 Swansea
