Hull vs Everton

Hull host Everton tonight, who are coming to the KC Stadium off the back of a win over the reigning champions – Leicester City.

This is the last fixture for both sides in 2016 and will be critical to gaining momentum before a hectic January.

Squad News

Hull are currently without no new injury concerns but are still missing forwards, Abel Hernandez and Will Keane to long term injuries.

Everton are without Maarten Stekelenburg meaning that Joel Robles will be in goal for the away side. Other absentees include; Muhamed Besic, Yannick Bolasie, James McCarthy and Bryan Oviedo.

The Tigers have only earned one point in December compared to the Toffee’s seven.

In terms of goals, all of Hull’s goals this month came in the 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace meaning that they have it all to do against a free scoring Everton side.

Across the same period, Ronald Koeman’s men have scored on seven occasions with only sloppy defending letting them down.

Key Information

  • This meeting has never seen a goalless draw in over 20 competitive first team meetings
  • Hull are notorious in giving away penalties
  • The last calendar year fixtures haven’t been generous to either side
  • Romelu Lukaku is responsible for most of Everton’s away goals and has scored against Hull in two of their last three meetings

Hull are definitely the underdogs coming into this fixture and will hope to be the winning side tonight.

Their defending has however been all over the place leaving serious questions about their survival credentials.

Everton have however been unpredictable, losing at Watford despite leading and conceding to Liverpool in injury time during Mersey Monday.

They however have Lukaku, who will be the main difference between winning and another end of calendar year defeat.

Given how both clubs have fared in their last couple of final calendar year games, I am expecting a tight game but the defence is going to be where the game is won and lost.

Prediction: Hull 0-1 Everton, Lukaku to get the winner

Result: Hull 2-2 Everton

If not at the KCOM Stadium, this match is available live on Sky Sports 1 with KO at 8:00pm.
