Birmingham City have signed midfielder, Max Bird from Bristol City for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Bird’s move comes after two seasons at Ashton Gate where he scored three goals in 68 appearances for the Robins, who have accepted an undisclosed transfer fee for the 25-year-old midfielder who had one year left on his contract.
“I want to say a huge thank you to the club and the fans who have always been behind me since I joined two years ago,” commented Bird to bcfc.co.uk in a farewell message.
“I have many great memories and I’ve met some brilliant people here. I wish the club all the very best for the future.”
Bristol City’s Sporting Director, James Ellis added: “Max has made a positive contribution to the club, whilst also having some challenging periods. In my short time here, he has been very professional and done all he can to get himself – and us – ready for the season.
“I have mentioned previously that there will be some tough decisions to make and we believe this is the best move for both the club and Max.
“He goes with our blessing and everyone at the club wishes Max all the best for his future career.”
Bird has signed a three-year contract with Birmingham and Blues boss, Chris Davies is “delighted” to sign the midfielder who he believes “… brings a significant amount of Championship experience and has been part of teams that have enjoyed success.”
Davies proceeded to reflect on Bird’s previous experience as captain whilst at Derby where he graduated through their academy to register seven goals in 191 appearances between 2017-24, believing that he can bring leadership to the squad alongside versatile tactical options.
“He’s also captained Derby on several occasions, so he brings leadership qualities and a good understanding of what is required to compete consistently in this league.”
“On the pitch, Max can contribute at both ends. He can break up attacks and win the ball back, but he can also create scoring opportunities and contribute offensively with the way he passes forward.”
