Egypt meanwhile could go top with a win if they better Belgium’s result against Iran.

Logan Rogerson is available for New Zealand after he missed their 2-2 draw against Iran, having been a late call-up to replace Matt Garbett who withdrew from the squad due to a hamstring injury a day earlier.
Egypt have a fully-fit squad available after their 1-1 draw against Belgium.

Stat Attack
- This is New Zealand’s first World Cup meeting against Egypt.
- Egypt are yet to lose to New Zealand in all competitions (D1, L2).
- New Zealand are yet to concede more than once in a game against Egypt – having drawn 1-1 in July 1999 then lost 1-0 a few days later that month and by that same result in March 2024.
- Chris Wood produced four of New Zealand’s 14 shots against Iran.
- Mohanad Lasheen won six tackles for Egypt against Belgium.
Prediction
Having not been in good form prior to the tournament and in particularly lacklustre in their friendly loss against England, New Zealand certainly surprised me with how they played against Iran because they were energetic and clinical but they will be disappointed at how they conceded twice from in front.
Egypt meanwhile were clinical in the first half of their eventual draw against Belgium in which they certainly caused issues for the Belgians with their defensive setup, but I now expect them to bring more attack as this is a chance to lay a proper marker in their bid to escape the group.
New Zealand though have shown that they’re no pushovers and if they score first, I can see them going on to win this if not get a draw at minimum.
