Chesterfield host Notts County in the first leg of their 2025-26 Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Semi-Final tie.
Chesterfield beat Swindon 2-1 away on the final day to nick the last play-off spot ahead of the Robins, although they eventually finished sixth in the table after Grimsby were held to a 1-1 draw at Tranmere.
Notts County finished fifth and just two points off the last automatic promotion spot.

Stat Attack
- This is Chesterfield’s first EFL play-off meeting against Notts County, but have lost one of their last eight meetings against the Magpies (W5, D2, L1).
- Notts County have won just one of their last eight visits to Chesterfield (W1, D3, L4).
- Chesterfield have kept a single clean sheet in their last eight home matches against Notts County, which came in a 2-0 win this season on 26 December 2025.
- Paul Cook’s Spireites are unbeaten in their last eight matches (W6, D2), with Lee Bonis having scored four goals in three of their last four games (W3, D1).
- Notts County have won two of their last five away matches (W2, L3).
Prediction
Currently unbeaten in their last eight matches and with a strong head-to-head form against Notts County, there is no doubting that the momentum lies with Chesterfield and they undoubtedly had a great test at Swindon which will stand them well for this two-legged tie.
Notts County on the other hand haven’t been consistent results wise since February – aside from consecutive wins in mid-March, so they really need to tighten up defensively because their forwards are capable of delivering the goals needed to win this tie.
Cook’s Spireites however are in considerably better form and given their away record at SMH Group Stadium, Notts County realistically need to get this tie back to Meadow Lane at least level if not ahead but I do think that Chesterfield will have too much quality.
Prediction: Chesterfield 2-1 Notts County
Result: Chesterfield 0-1 Notts County
