Defender, Luke Ayling has signed a new one-year contract at Middlesbrough until June 2027.

Ayling initially joined Middlesbrough on loan in January 2024 from Leeds and made the move permanent that summer, with the defender having gone on to make 85 appearances in total for the Teesside-based club.

This season has seen the 34-year old defender make 38 appearances as part of Boro’s current promotion-challenging campaign as they lay second in the Championship, in which he scored his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw away at Leicester.

Ahead of a crucial run-in, Ayling has now committed his future to the club with a new one-year contract until June 2027, of which he is excited to stay and prove his worth.

“I’m absolutely delighted. Last season wasn’t great for me, and I wanted to show people I could still play at this level, and I’ve enjoyed this season.”
