2025-26 Premier League: Week 25 – Liverpool vs Man City

Liverpool continue their top-four push against Premier League title challengers, Manchester City at Anfield.

Victory will see Liverpool stay sixth but move back to within one point of fifth-placed Chelsea, whilst Man City can cut their title deficit to Arsenal down to six points with a win.

Team News

Joe Gomez could return for Liverpool following his recovery from a knock, but Arne Slot otherwise has no fresh injury concerns after their 4-1 victory at home to Newcastle last weekend.

Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring), Alex Isak (leg), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (ACL) remain absent.

Man City could welcome Bernardo Silva back after he missed their Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg victory against Newcastle, having suffered a muscle injury in their 2-2 draw at Tottenham in the Premier League last Sunday.

Jeremy Doku (muscle), Josko Gvardiol (leg), John Stones (thigh), Mateo Kovacic (foot) and Savinho (calf) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Liverpool host Man City at Anfield on Sunday 8 February at 4:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool have lost one of their last five meetings against Man City (W2, D2, L1).
  • Man City have won one of their last league trips to Liverpool at Anfield (W1, D2, L3).
  • Liverpool have won two of their last three meetings against Man City by 2-0 results, but lost 3-0 away at the Etihad Stadium in their recent clash in November 2025.
  • Florian Wirtz has scored in each of Liverpool’s last two league matches at home (W1, D1).
  • City have failed to win any of their first three league matches on the road in 2026 (D2, L1).

Prediction

Firmly stuck into the race for fourth and with City only eight points ahead, Liverpool know that this is a huge opportunity to build on their last two performances which saw them blow Qarabag and Newcastle apart at home in the past week-and-a-half, but this will be a tough test of their recent progress.

City meanwhile absolutely ruthlessly dispatched Newcastle in the first half of their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg with a dominant press on the Magpies’ vulnerable defence, which is something that City also suffers within their own back lines when they take the foot off the gas.

In fact City’s biggest issue is that they tend to take their foot off the gas in the second half more as seen against not just Newcastle but at Tottenham last Sunday too, which simply can’t happen here against an equally strong Liverpool team who might look to bide their time here.

Anfield also hasn’t tended to favour City so the first goal is critical because if Liverpool get the lead, it will be a tough ask but if they can get ahead then I can see them keeping the gas pedal on full throttle, but it has to be consistent if that’s the case otherwise Liverpool will surely nick a point.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-1 Man City
