West Ham have signed Argentine forward, Taty Castellanos from Lazio for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Castellanos’ move comes after two-and-a-half years with Italy’s Lazio, where he scored 22 goals in 98 appearances following a move from New York City.

“I’m really happy because it’s a very important challenge for me personally and I’ve come to contribute, to try to help the team as much as I can,” commented Castellanos who has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with option for a further year, as he gave his first interview to www.whufc.com.

“Every match is a battle, and I’m here to contribute that, to try to bring that energy, that fighting spirit I have inside, so that every match is as important and as tough as possible.

“I hope to give my all to the fans. I’ve always defended the jersey of every team with the utmost responsibility, and I want to tell them that I’m going to give everything, to defend this jersey, and obviously, to achieve our goals day after day. That’s the most important thing.”

Castellanos will wear the number 11 shirt and has been registered in time to feature in West Ham’s relegation six-pointer at home to Nottingham Forest at London Stadium tomorrow (6 January), as the Hammers fight for Premier League survival.

The 27-year-old began his senior career at Universidad de Chile but made no senior appearances as he was instead loaned out to Torque, where he managed five goals in 30 appearances between 2017 to 18 before New York City signed him on an initial loan in July 2018.

NY City subsequently went on to sign him at the end of his loan and Castellanos managed 58 goals in 124 total appearances across four years plus 2021 MLS Cup title, before he spent 2022-23 season on loan at Spain’s Girona which saw him finish as their top goalscorer that season with 14 goals in 37 appearances.

His performances at Girona secured his move to Lazio where he spent the last two-and-a-half years.

Castellanos has made two senior appearances for Argentina since his first call-up in August 2024.
