Roundup of the latest Premier League action as the festive fortnight got underway.

Viktor Gyokeres’ 27th-minute penalty ensured that Arsenal spent Christmas Day sat top of the table with a 1-0 victory away at Everton, after the Toffees’ Jake O’Brien had committed handball.

Manchester City remained two points behind in second after Erling Haaland’s brace and a neat finish from Tijjani Reijnders saw them cruise to a 3-0 home win against third-bottom West Ham.

Aston Villa sat a further point behind in third after Morgan Rogers’ brace saw them extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to ten matches, with a 2-1 win at home to Manchester United despite Matheus Cunha’s equaliser in first-half injury time.

Second-half goals from Reece James and Joao Pedro saw fourth-placed Chelsea snatch a 2-2 draw at Newcastle United, after Nick Woltemade had scored twice in the opening 20 minutes for the hosts.

Down in the relegation zone, Wolves equalled the longest winless start to a Premier League season in a 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford as Keane Lewis-Potter struck twice for the Bees.

Second-bottom Burnley snatched a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth through Armando Broja’s equalising header, after Antoine Semenyo fired the Cherries in front.

Nottingham Forest sit five points above the drop following a 1-0 loss at Fulham, as Raul Jimenez’s late first-half penalty settled a close contest at Craven Cottage.

Elsewhere, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header plus goals from Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach saw Leeds extend their unbeaten run to four matches in a 4-1 win at home to Crystal Palace, in which Justin Devenny netted an injury-time penalty for the Eagles.

Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike found the net for Liverpool in a 2-1 win over nine-men Tottenham who saw Xavi Simons and Cristian Romero red carded amidst Richarlison’s consolatory effort.

Brighton’s first Premier League meeting against Sunderland finished goalless at the AMEX Stadium.
