England forward, Aggie Beever-Jones praised her teammates for producing “a really good” friendly win over Australia.
Beever-Jones fired the Lionesses ahead at Pride Park, Derby, with a 20th-minute rebound strike, before Lucy Bronze’s finish doubled their lead at half time, whilst Georgia Stanway wrapped up the 3-0 victory with a 98th-minute penalty.
“It’s always nice to get a win after a loss but even at half time, we said we were getting chances and we could get the ball more in the final third and make better decisions,” reflected the 22 year-old just days after England lost to Brazil as she acknowledged the improved performance.
“But I think it was a really good team performance. I thought we kept the ball really well and it was nice to see all the fans in the stadium after a wonderful summer.”
Beever-Jones also came into this international window off the back of six goals in ten appearances for England across 2024-25 season, with the forward not too bothered about stats as she spoke of her desire to focus on impressing manager – Sarina Wiegman.
“Playing football brings out the best in me, wherever I play,” she explained. “I didn’t even know I won that award. I don’t look at the stats too much.
“I just came here to focus and show Sarina what I can do. You saw it today, I was out on the wing a bit which is something I haven’t done a lot recently but I love playing for England wherever I play.
“I got on the scoresheet today. It was a good performance today and hopefully we can take positives from that.”
Beever-Jones however picked up a minor injury but she explained post match that she was fine despite the “frustrating” issue which forced her off after England made their substitutions, and was relieved that Australia were already down a player after Alanna Kennedy’s red card.
“But they were down to ten so it didn’t make too big of an impact and sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture. I’ll be okay.”
