2025-26 Carabao Cup: Fourth Round – Newcastle vs Tottenham

Newcastle continue their Carabao Cup title defence against Tottenham Hotspur in a blockbuster fourth round tie.

Victory would see Newcastle reach the Quarter-Finals for the fifth time in six seasons, whilst Tottenham are chasing a fourth appearance in the last eight in six seasons.

  • Tottenham have won one of two previous League Cup trips to Newcastle (W1, L1).
  • Newcastle are yet to keep a clean sheet at home to Tottenham in this competition, having won 3-1 in January 1976 then lost 2-1 in September 2008.
  • Newcastle have scored eight goals and conceded one goal in their last four home ties in this competition (W4).
  • Tottenham kept just one clean sheet in their last four all top-flight matches in this competition (W3, L1).
  • Spurs’ manager – Thomas Frank lost away to Newcastle last season in this competition when in charge of Brentford, as the Bees suffered a 3-1 loss in the Quarter-Finals stage.

Prediction

Having claimed back-to-back victories in the past week, Newcastle can come into this tie full of confidence especially after a clinical display to beat Fulham but they can’t be as wasteful as they were at times in that game or they will be punished.

Tottenham meanwhile were absolutely clinical in their win at Everton with four of their seven shots converted onto target, despite being outplayed for much of the game so will expect more of the same here but they will need to show more attack because Newcastle won’t be as sloppy as they were on Saturday.

Nevertheless this is a cracking tie between two teams capable of challenging for the title but home advantage could be the difference for Newcastle, as long as they’re more polished in their final touches.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham

Result: Newcastle 2-0 Tottenham
