Red Bull’s Max Verstappen described his dominant 2025 Italian Grand Prix as an “incredible” performance.
Verstappen topped Qualifying with the fastest-ever lap speed of 164.484mph and after he briefly conceded the lead on lap two after an opening-lap clash with McLaren’s Lando Norris, he regained the lead on lap 4 and proceeded to claim a dominant victory even once the pit stop phase was completed.
The win also was recorded as the fastest Grand Prix victory in F1 at one-hour, 13 minutes and 24.325 second to cap Verstappen’s record-breaking weekend.
The result marked his third Grand Prix win of the season after Japan and Emilia Romagna and Verstappen was chuffed to have enjoyed a strong weekend at Monza with a new upgrade, having struggled for peak performance in F1’s visit to the Temple of Speed in 2024.
“It’s been a fantastic weekend and to win again has been incredible, it’s been a while! It is really rewarding to see the steps we are making understanding the car.
“We brought an upgrade here which really worked and took a step forward with the set-up of the car.
“In general, the car goes better in low to medium downforce tracks and we just need to keep pushing and keep trying to improve, as we have been.
“After the overtake it was about getting on with my own race, hitting targets and looking after the tyres. Pitting and going on to the Hard tyre was the best thing possible and we just tried to extend the gap as much as we could to the McLarens.”
Sat 94 points off the title lead with his title defence all but mathematically over, Verstappen felt that the Italian GP was key to giving himself belief that he can get more wins this season.
“This weekend has been incredible and is a super important weekend during a year like this. It shows there are still chances to win, which is really nice.”
The result also marked Red Bull’s first Grand Prix victory under new Team Principal, Laurent Mekies who replaced Christian Horner in early July, and the ex Racing Bulls boss praised Verstappen for his historic performances across the weekend.
“Max redefined what perfection is today and this weekend in general. It was a difficult first lap and he kept very cool and managed to do the overtaking on track and then to dominate the race.
“Monza is very specific in terms of layout and the Team have done an amazing job to get, fundamentally, the fastest car on track here, then combine that with Max’s magic and the result is today’s win.”
