Crewe Alexandra host promotion-chasing Walsall on the final day of 2024-25 League Two season.
Victory could see Crewe finish 11th if Bromley slip up against Cheltenham, whilst Walsall need to better Bradford’s result to secure promotion to League One.
Team News
Tom Lowery and Zak Williams are suspended for Crewe Alexandra following their red cards in a 2-0 defeat at Tranmere.
Shilow Tracey (leg) remains absent.
Walsall will be without suspended Connor Barrett after the defender was red carded in their 1-0 home loss to Accrington Stanley.
Jack Earing remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
When is Kick-Off?
Crewe Alexandra host Walsall at Mornflake Stadium on Saturday 3 May at 3pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ Red Button in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Crewe Alexandra have lost only one of their last 12 meetings against Walsall (W4, D7, L1).
- Walsall are winless in their last five visits to Crewe Alexandra (D3, L2).
- Crewe have kept clean sheets in two of their last five home games against Walsall.
- Crewe have won just one of their last five matches at home (W1, D1, L4).
- Walsall are winless in their last seven away matches (D6, L1)
Prediction
With only a 11th-placed finish to play for on the final day, Crewe can afford to relax coming into this game with no pressure on them but they really need to stop their recent home rut by cutting out their defensive errors if want to finish the campaign on a positive note.
Walsall on the other hand simply need to find a way to stop their away rut not just in recent games on the road but also in this fixture too if want promotion should Bradford slip up, so it is imperative that they tighten up defensively and ideally score first to put the control of this game in their hands.
Nevertheless Crewe aren’t an easy team to play against and with both teams currently not in the best possible form, I can see this ending in a draw with Walsall unlikely to get promotion unless Bradford lose.
Prediction: Crewe Alexandra 1-1 Walsall
Result: Crewe Alexandra 0-1 Walsall
